The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Established in 2018, the Bluff Study Centre is operated by the full-time Instructor, Hayley Linderboom. The Kumon Programme is individualised and caters for students of all ages and abilities. At this centre parents are encouraged to enrol students from as little as age three in order to give them a stronger foundation and allow them to become independent learners early on.

As a Kumon parent herself, Hayley understands the benefits as well as the challenges of Kumon from both sides of the spectrum and therefore understands the necessity for good communication and parental support.

The centre is based in a quiet location on Marine Drive, near the corner of Marine Drive and Highbury Road. It is close to most of the schools in the area and also easily accessible from the freeway, should any students be coming from surrounding areas. There is ample parking available in front of the centre as well as two shopping centres close by.

The vision of the Bluff Study Centre is to be a place where children feel safe, comfortable and valued so that they are able to grow into competent young people who are able to confidently face day-to-day challenges.

About the Instructor

My name is Hayley Linderboom and I am the Instructor at the Bluff Study Centre.

I have always enjoyed working with children. I have been a Children’s’ Ministry leader in my church and always enjoyed teaching the classes.

Having three children of my own, I understand the day-to-day challenges that learners face today. My three children are so different to each other and have such diverse needs that it helps me to understand that learning should be individualised.

This is the reason that I chose to become a Kumon Instructor. The Kumon method is tailor made to suit the needs of each individual child, and it allows children to progress beyond expectations. The Kumon Programme also helps children develop good work skills which can help them beyond the classroom and lead them to become well rounded, holistically developed individuals. This concept gives me great pleasure as I enjoy seeing children develop in all aspects of life.

As a Kumon parent myself, I understand the importance of good communication and will strive to ensure that the lines of communication are always open and that you are kept up to date with your child’s progress.

In my centre it is important to me to create an environment where children are celebrated and not just tolerated, and where they feel comfortable enough to be themselves.

I look forward to meeting you and your child as we walk the journey to a brighter future together.

How long does study take?

Study takes around 30 minutes per subject a day, depending on age and level of the work. Currently, study may be In-Centre and/or at home with online or messaging support.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
