Kumon Craighall is situated on the second floor of the bustling Colony Centre on Jan Smuts Avenue.

At Kumon Craighall, we see each child as an individual and so we aim to develop their potential to their maximum. Each student’s progress is evaluated on a weekly basis to ensure that they are working at a level that is suited specifically to them.

From the moment a child works through the door, they are greeted by one of the dedicated four assistants that work at the centre, and whose heart’s lie in working with children, whether they are early learners or high-school learners. There are students as young as 2-years-old in this centre, with the oldest currently being 18-years-old. For this reason we have two separate study areas for students: one for pre–primary school learners and one for high school learners. However, we do cater for students beyond school-going age too!

The centre has a beautiful library with a variety of books, including books from the Kumon Recommended Reading List, which children of all ages can enjoy.

There is ample parking within the centre so finding parking will never be an issue. Parents can also make use of the waiting area (that is equipped with Wi-Fi) in the centre while their child studies for the recommended time of around 30 minutes per subject. There is also a coffee shop on the ground floor.

About the Instructor

I was introduced to Kumon over 20 years ago during an au-pairing post. I was able to see first-hand the impact that the Kumon Method had on the children, which not only included improving their Maths skills, but also contributed to their confidence in facing academic and social challenges and equipping them with advanced problem-solving skills.

When I decided to take take my 7-year-old son to Kumon to give him an extra boost of confidence when he began his reading journey, I was so blown away by the progress that he made within 3 months that I promptly enrolled my 3-year-old son too. My 2-year-old daughter has also just recently joined. Any child at any age and stage of learning can enjoy the benefits of learning the Kumon Method. I have personally seen the many advantages that children experience by doing the Kumon Programmes.

I felt compelled to pursue an opportunity with Kumon after my experience, and during my training, I realised that Kumon is not only about the assigned worksheets that are given to the child to complete in the centre and at home. It is about so much more, which I hope to be able to continue to show you as I work closely with your child. It will be a privilege for me to be a part of developing your child’s self-confidence as well as perseverance to achieve their goals, which I feel are such major skills to carry through life.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
