The centre is a long existing centre with staff and students that have been with the centre for many years. Student ages at the centre range from four year’s old to adults. The centre is open four days of the week including Saturday mornings.

During centre hours students of all ages are able to do their own worksheet study at the same time. Younger students, which are referred to as ‘early learners’, complete their worksheets assisted by one of the staff, while more independent students work independently. The Instructor’s responsibility is to keep a close eye on all students in case they need assistance.

All students are encouraged to read books from the reading area, and to develop a love for reading.

About the Instructor

I am Gladys Ditshego, and I am a mom to three busy boys. My husband and I have been together for many eventful but happy years.

My journey with Kumon started 23 years ago when I applied for the assistant position at a well, established Kumon Centre. How my life has changed since!

I have grown through the years, starting with a basic understanding of what the Kumon Programme can do for a student, and developing towards seeing students achieve outstanding results and becoming very successful, independent young adults.

In the true Kumon way, I started with the basic “foundations” by marking worksheets during very busy centre days. I then progressed to becoming the “Head Assistant”, having more responsibility in planning the day-to-day work the students are doing.

I have now opened my own Kumon Centre to give even more children the opportunity to work on the Kumon Programme, bringing all the valuable knowledge and experience gained by working as an assistant for so many years.

I am a very motivated, patient and loving person. I am eager to assist your child in their journey. My staff and I will do our very best to be there every step of the way as your child develops into an independent learner in our centre.

How long does study take?

Study takes around 30 minutes per subject a day, depending on age and level of the work. Currently, study may be In-Centre and/or at home with online or messaging support.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
