The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Welcome to the Garsfontein Kumon Centre. We strive to instill in each individual child the desire to achieve their goals and the confidence to become stronger academically, develop stamina, perseverance and a positive attitude towards learning.

Whether your child is at the beginning of his academic career, seeking enrichment or needs help catching up, Kumon is designed to build foundations in preparing for advanced work and developing ability to the maximum.

Our emphasis on individualised learning helps your child develop concentration, character and independent problem solving skills.  We monitor each child’s progress through the levels to ensure they master each new concept, before progressing to the next. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

Kumon is an individualised education system based on daily study. Students will attend our study centre twice a week and complete daily assignments at home. Class times and days at the Garsfontein centre are extremely flexible, available four afternoons a week, making Kumon convenient for each student’s busy after-school schedule.

Our centre strives for purposefulness and efficiency. Students are nurtured to complete their Kumon activities in this way, assisted by our well trained and caring team who give their full support to work in unity towards a useful learning experience.  The professional, well planned space is the perfect environment for developing the necessary skills for excellent progress.

Kumon is about investing in the future of your child.  Our mutual goal is a confident, happy, capable, well rounded individual you want your child to grow up to be. This means commitment from you as well as from me, but this will reap countless rewards for your child.

We look forward to making a difference in your child’s life.

About the Instructor

As an extensively trained, professional Instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

As the mother of two beautiful girls, I have always had a passion for developing my children’s academic ability, enjoying the challenge of motivating and stimulating them. I know that advanced maths and language skills are vital for any activity in today’s world. I discovered that the roots of the Kumon method of Learning started from a parent’s wishes to nurture his child to acquire sufficient ability, as early as possible, to cope in life on his own without having to rely on his parents.

Toru Kumon, a maths teacher in Japan, made worksheets with sums for his son to help him develop mathematical skills, and thus the company Kumon was founded. Before long, he discovered that it wasn’t just maths skills which students could improve through doing Kumon. They could also develop valuable independent learning skills.

I enrolled my two children in the Kumon programme and observed first-hand just how superior a learning method it is.  Two years later, I am amazed to witness in my own children all the benefits that the Kumon method offers. Perhaps I did not fully understand children’s vast potential to grow.  Seeing my own children’s growth and development through Kumon motivated me to become a Kumon Instructor.

The Kumon method is an educational programme that would benefit strong students, as well as assist students who experience difficulty with maths and English. I hope to provide as many children as possible the opportunity to learn using the Kumon method. I am excited and privileged to guide your child on the path to knowledge.

I firmly believe that Kumon is the best investment parents can make in their child’s education.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
