At Kumon, our aim is for each and every child to become an independent, advanced learner, with a positive attitude to study. For this reason a Kumon Study Centre was opened in Knysna in 2006 by Elaine English. In 2008 Jenny Marshall took over the Centre from Elaine English and employed Grazia Plewman (the present Instructor) as her assistant to run the English side of the Kumon programme. At that time the Study Centre was held in the Presbyterian Church Hall. It moved from the Hall to a classroom in Knysna Primary School, where it is currently still based. The centre is open to all children in the area and not just the Knysna Primary School students, currently drawing children from schools in Hornlee and Concordia, as well as from all other schools in town.
Knysna Kumon is therefore an established study centre in the area, one which will hopefully move into its very own permanent space soon!
The unique Kumon programmes pursue the potential of each child, developing their ability and nurturing their independence. Following an Enrolment Interview your child will begin on the programmes at an individually set starting point, laying a solid foundation for effective learning. Their progress through the programmes will be tailored to their individual needs, ensuring your child continues to grow and achieve.
As a Kumon student, your child will develop invaluable study skills and grow in confidence as they become an independent learner. Through daily study of the unique Kumon worksheets, your child will strive towards studying above the international standard for their age, enabling them to realise their potential both at school and beyond. In addition to studying an appropriate amount of work at home on a daily basis, your child will also attend the study centre twice a week.
Kumon’s long-term focus provides children with the self-assurance to take their learning into their own hands, increasing their motivation to succeed.
