The Mokopane Centre was established in 2001, Kumon has become synonymous with good education and enhanced skills.
The location of the centre makes it accessible to learners from most schools in and around the area. In addition to this, it is a child friendly safe environment with full home security, a separate entrance, sufficient parking and a waiting area for parents. Currently at the centre, students are aged between five and seventeen with varying abilities. Students are assigned to time slots to ensure effective learning and instruction. Furthermore, the layout of the centre is conducive to learning and ensures that learners are not easily distracted. A separate day is assigned to pre-school learners who require individual attention. In order to improve the reading fluency, pronunciation and expression of second language speakers, a separate area is provided. This is where supplementary activities such as flashcards and listening exercises on CD’s are conducted.
An additional consideration is that the centre accommodates students who are high achievers, students from disadvantaged communities and students whose first language is not English. Our approach and interventions have to be mindful of this diversity and deal with each group individually.
The Mokopane Centre is overseen by instructor Fatima as well as her team of six competent assistants. Each assistant is assigned a maximum of five learners at any given timeslot. This ensures effective instruction in terms of feedback, observation, goal setting, marking and correcting.
Newly enrolled students are closely monitored to ensure that they are familiarized with centre flow as well as study skills unique to the Kumon method.
