The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

The Seatides Kumon Study Centre was established in 2012 and is now under new management. Situated at the Seatides Combined School, the centre provides a safe and secure environment with easy access to the Tongaat Beach Library, which in turn provides ample parking and a comfortable waiting area.

The fulltime Instructor, Dashica Padavattan, together with the experienced and well-trained assistants, is committed to helping and guiding each learner to obtain maximum benefits from the Kumon Programmes. In this well-structured centre, which includes a reading area filled with interesting and exciting books from the Kumon Recommended Reading List, each student is provided with an opportunity to develop into independent, advanced learners with a love for learning.

The Seatides Kumon Study Centre enrols students from as young as four years old. The principles of the Kumon Method are used to create a strong foundation and a love for learning throughout their lives.

About the Instructor

I am Dashica Padavattan and my Kumon journey began when I enrolled my son, who was five years old at the time, at the Seatides Kumon Study Centre. While working with him and the Instructor at the centre I came to realise that the Kumon Programme ‘makes children smarter’. As I watched him I was just amazed. The Kumon Maths Programme progresses from the very basics of counting to calculus and beyond, all without the use of a calculator. It was not just his academic ability that improved, but his emotional growth, his confidence and self-esteem. He is now ten years old and adamant about being a Kumon completer.

I started working at the centre as an assistant in 2013 and thereby gained a wealth of knowledge and experience. Previously, I worked in the banking industry, but for me the joy of working with children surpasses any other field of work. I am grateful to have acquired intensive training in the Kumon programme and am now the Instructor of the Seatides Study Centre. Through Kumon’s generous support system, my training and the development of my instruction techniques will be on going so that I am always confident in my ability to equip my learners with excellent work skills and academic achievements.

Kumon is the best investment a parent can make in their child’s education. As much as we would love to be with our children every step of their lives we are unable to do so. However, we can give them the best foundation so that they are able to deal with any challenges that come their way.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
