Welcome to the Secunda Study Centre, located at 12 Engelenburg Street.

At the Secunda Study Centre we cater for every child, regardless of ability, age or culture. We aim to develop the potential of each student to the maximum, always remembering that every child is different. Your child will progress at their own pace, enabling them to achieve success. At our centre you will find well trained, dedicated and caring staff, with a clear, goal orientated vision for your child.

Using the Kumon Method we build confidence and develop study skills by means of the Maths and English Programmes. We nurture each student by improving the way they work and think. Children become smarter through studying work which is appropriate to their individual level of ability and development. Starting with building basic foundations, we allow students to first adjust to the self-learning method before moving on to more difficult work. Students are trained how to learn from the worksheets so that they can become independent learners who can self -study beyond school grade level. Kumon’s long-term focus provides children with self-assurance to take their learning into their own hands, increasing their motivation to succeed.

In addition to studying an appropriate amount of work at home, on a daily basis, your child will also attend the study centre twice a week.

About the Instructor

My name is Nolene Kruger. As a parent of two beautiful children I had to ask myself many times how do I best prepare my children for the future? The future demands children who can solve problems creatively, manage time effectively and sort through huge amounts of information efficiently. It also requires children who are confident, able to self-learn and adapt to different environments as well as have the discipline to persevere. I enrolled both my children on the Kumon Programmes and observed first-hand how these skills were developed, together with their maths and English ability. The Kumon Method nurtures these life skills through the carefully structured Maths and English worksheets.

I worked as a Kumon assistant from 2007 and saw many children grow and develop through Kumon. This motivated me to become a Kumon Instructor. I find the Kumon Method very stimulating and fulfilling. Watching how Kumon makes a difference in student’s lives is very rewarding indeed.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
