Did you know you can now study Kumon using digital worksheets? This study centre is proud to offer the KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

The Kumon Walmer Study Centre is based just off the main centre hall, in the St Saviour's Anglican Church on Villiers Road, and it has been running from there since around 2009.

This safe, secure environment in a peaceful suburb is easily accessible and offers ample safe and shaded parking for parents.
The centre is very close to various shopping centres, where parents can shop their groceries if necessary,  while their children are in centre.
The area at the back of the church has a play area with jungle gym and seating for parents who wish to wait elsewhere.
The centre has a small reading section, which allows children to encourage their love for reading after completing their Kumon activities.

The children attending the facility range from 4 to 17 years of age. In addition to the instructor, there are three assistants who help with the marking and any extra attention the children may need. The Kumon Walmer Study Centre offers a welcoming, friendly environment to help children achieve the very best of their abilities in both maths and English, while developing skills that will assist them for life.

About the Instructor

My name is Fatima Jina.
I was first introduced to Kumon in 2004, when my nieces enrolled into the program. I watched them excel not only in understanding, but also in work-skills and attitude towards their studies. They were able to take on new school work with confidence and maturity beyond their years and excel in all aspects of their school and university careers.

I have a BCOM (Informatics) degree and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education. I have taught and tutored Math for many for over a decade, and have always been passionate about making a positive difference to my students and seeing them improve and develop.
As a teacher, I realised that many students struggled to grasp basic concepts, not due to a lack in their ability, but instead because of the syllabus overload (squeezed into the year) and the fact that each child develops differently at their own pace.
In order for positive change to occur, their journey needed to be tailored according to their specific needs. But this unfortunately, could not be fostered within a mainstream classroom setting.
I recommended The Kumon programme to some students and soon saw the enormous benefits it had on those who had enrolled.
It can be no surprise then, that I myself am a Kumon parent.  I saw first-hand, the incredible impact Kumon had on my own children in making them confident, independent, logical problem-solvers, who can easily tackle any challenges they are given. Kumon struck the balance of not over-exerting them, but still adding a challenge to keep them engaged.

So, when the prospect arose for me to become a part of this wonderful Kumon family, I embraced, with open arms, the opportunity to discover and unlock the unlimited potential of students of all ages and abilities.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
