About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available
The current Kumon White River centre was established in 2011, although Kumon has been in the White River community for much longer than that. In October 2016 the new Instructor Anneliese le Roux took the centre over, and together with Passions the experienced assistant, has been running the centre since.

Kumon is a programme for all ages and abilities. At the centre there are children of various ages who study the Kumon Programmes. The centre’s layout is conducive to optimal learning and boasts a separate Early Learner section. Through the Kumon Method children can work comfortably and confidently with the knowledge and understanding that Kumon equips them with. Goal setting with students and parents is also part of the Kumon Method, and as such students are always aware of what their individual goals are. Reports on these goals and achievements are provided regularly to both students and parents.

The centre provides a safe waiting area for students with a remote-controlled entrance/exit gate. A small play area is available, with one of the centre assistants checking on the students regularly. There is ample parking space available for parents who choose to wait for their children.

About the Instructor

My name is Anneliese le Roux and I was introduced to Kumon by a friend. I enrolled my little girl when she was 4 years old and very soon after her enrolment we could see the difference in her increased self-confidence and in her eagerness to study on her own. When the opportunity came up to take the centre over I contacted head office to find out if I would qualify to be an Instructor. I started doing training soon after that and also worked in the centre for a period of time as an assistant before officially becoming the Instructor.

I always need to have a 100% belief in whatever I do and with my passion for children’s development, Kumon ticked all the boxes for me. From the day I joined Kumon until present day, my respect for the programmes continues to grow. The learning principles, such as building a solid foundation, giving praise and encouragement, having sufficient practice and repetition, developing at their own pace and achieving good study skills are what make the programmes so effective.

I am so thankful that I am privileged to be able to work with all my students and that my supportive parents entrust their children to me. Every centre day feels like a reward as I see happy, confident students entering and leaving my centre.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
