KUMON CONNECT available
Did you know you can now study Kumon using digital worksheets? This study centre is proud to offer the KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

The Kumon Chartwell Study Centre was established in 2021. It offers both ‘in centre’ and online classes as well as the new KUMON CONNECT (still in trial phase). In the case of the KUMON CONNECT, the worksheets may be completed on an IPad or other compatible tablet less than 3 years old.

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmess aim to bring out the best in every child, regardless of age or ability. It also helps children to reach their potential and to foster a love of learning.

Through individualised programmes with work set at just the right level, your child will be able to build strong learning foundations in Maths and English. Children learn through example questions in the worksheets, along with guidance from the Instructor. This method of learning offers so much more than traditional tuition: it nurtures you child’s independence, developing strong self-learning skills and providing them with the tools to help them excel in the future. The work is set according to ability, irrespective of age. The Kumon Programmes therefore allow learners the opportunity to fill in any missing gaps in their study foundations, as well as the opportunity to work ahead of their school grade level.

Kumon students believe “I CAN DO THIS”.

The Instructor assesses your child to determine at what point in the programme they should begin their Kumon study, then through daily work coupled with up to twice weekly study Centre visits, they build both their self-confidence as well as other crucial skills in small manageable steps.

Teach a child fractions and he succeeds at fractions. Make a child a better learner and he succeeds at life.”  Toru Kumon

The Kumon Chartwell Study Centre is a child friendly environment with ample workspace which provides a safe and kind learning environment for students. There is a playground in front of the Centre as well as free parking for waiting parents. There is a reading library which offers books from the Kumon Recommended Reading List. The students are able to relax on comfy cushions while reading their favourite book. There is also a dedicated early learner section for the littlest students.

Even though we have moved into the post-COVID pandemic stage, the Centre continues to offer a “virtual Centre" via Zoom. This gives your child a chance to complete their daily study online alongside other students from the Centre. It is a friendly and supportive environment, much like the physical Centre, where the team are able to instruct and guide the students when necessary.

About the Instructor

My name is Anne Avis. I studied Accountancy and worked in the corporate world for a number of years.

I became a Kumon Instructor as I enjoy working with children. I was a Cub leader for five years. The pack had approximately sixty Cubs ranging in age between seven and eleven years. I gained a good insight into working with young children of all abilities. As a leader I not only had to teach the children but I had to keep them interested and motivated to do their best.

I was introduced to the Kumon Programme through my son’s school. My son has partial hearing and throughout his schooling career it was a challenge for him to listen to a teacher and engage in the classroom environment. He built up a lot of anxiety and self-doubt. I realised the benefit of Kumon when I enrolled my son into the programme and he was able to prove to himself that “HE CAN DO IT”. He became a confident self-learner and his Maths marks improved dramatically as he was familiar with the concepts prior to them being taught in the classroom. I truly learnt first hand what a wonderful tool Kumon Maths was for him as it opened up the world of learning to my son. It gave him self confidence and a belief in himself for which I will always be thankful for.

I am very excited to be a Kumon Instructor and to have the opportunity to impart the same confidence and self-belief to all the children through the Kumon Maths and English Programmes.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
