About our centre
Kumon Bedfordview West started operating in 2026.
The joy and empowerment of learning is what we share with everyone we interact with at the Centre, where one is never too young, too old, or differently abled to discover their potential.
Our Centre is a welcoming, calming space where children and adults can focus on their own work in an environment that is there to support their personal development. To that end there are designated work areas for the toddlers and older children as well as a library with a reading area.
We are located on Nicol Road which connects Eastgate Shopping Centre to Bedford Village Shopping Centre. To the North we have the R24 and to the East is the N3 highway. We have a ramped entrance to the centre, and another one in the bathroom. The property has 24/7 security and ample parking space. Parents and other siblings can either enjoy the beautiful garden and play area on the property or visit Oriel Park during class.
The programmes offered at our Centre are Mathematics and two English Language ones: the long-standing English Native Language and the newer English Foreign Language. KUMON CONNECT is also available at our Centre, which enables students to access their worksheets online and on the go.
My assistant at the Centre is my admirable Aunt who has a passion for working with early learners. She has taught toddlers from 3 – 5 years old in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and in Johannesburg. Before that she taught Economics and Business Economics in high school for 5 years and has worked at education NGOs: Link and Zenex.
Classes at our Centre are offered on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 14:00 to 18:00, and on Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00. KUMMON CONNECT classes are offered on Wednesdays.

About your Instructor
I go by Dakalo Dyer, and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Bedfordview West Centre.
Despite being aware of the existence of Kumon and knowing of family friends who had enrolled their children in the programmes, it took my fabulous Aunt inviting me to start a franchise with her for me to thoroughly investigate what Kumon was all about.
It turned out that I had something in common with Kumon. My curiosity has stayed with me since childhood and developed into independent learning. Three instances of that are: a year of high school via correspondence, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education through UNISA, and currently, an online Interior Design Diploma.
I hold a BSc in Biological Sciences and am a qualified teacher of Natural Sciences and Life Sciences. I also studied Architecture for a few years. Previously I have worked for the IEC in operations and voter education, an NGO in community development, and have made and sold origami lamps.
Being a Kumon Instructor is an integral part of my journey, which will see me discovering the potential of individuals and developing the abilities to the maximum. It is a journey I invite you and your children to be a part of so we can all become people who are able to live our purpose and thus contribute to the global community.
The Kumon method of breaking down learning into steps that can be mastered at one’s own pace makes it accessible to everyone who is brave enough to try it. The fact that the skills learnt through Maths and English are transferrable to other walks of life is testament to how phenomenal the Kumon method is.
Frequently Asked Questions
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
