The Hillcrest Kumon Study Centre  is the gateway to happy, confident self-learners who are disciplined and academically adept. We provide a nurturing environment conducive to learning and personal growth. The centre caters for students from as young as 2 years old.

Our aim is for each student to become a motivated, independent learner with the confidence to realise their potential and become achievers at school as well as in all spheres of life. We achieve this using a structured programme of unique worksheets and individualised instruction that explores each learners potential to the maximum.

The Instructor and her assistants are dedicated to stimulating and guiding their students' development. Successful Kumon study requires effort and commitment from the student, parents and the Hillcrest Kumon Team. The Instructor is readily available to answer any queries and assist parents with their child’s progress.

We are located at Strangeways Business Park with secure access, secure parking and wheelchair access. At the centre we have a dedicated early learner section and a library which provides the students’ with access to Kumon’s Recommended Reading List of books.

About the Instructor

Hello and welcome to Kumon Hillcrest!

My name is Shameela Sahadeo. I am a scientist by profession, and someone who thrives on facts and learning. Based on my experience and observations, there is a need to develop young learner skills in mathematics and English, which will improve their study and life skills. Our children are our future after all.

I believe Kumon provides us with the tools to develop potential that is awe inspiring and skills that are life-changing. Children need access to opportunities to enable them to succeed as individuals and later to assist them in their quest to be a part of the global community. I am thrilled to be a part of this centre and to interact with your children making a positive, holistic difference. I am indeed privileged to be a part of this development in your children, of self confidence and perseverance to achieve goals in the Kumon way of study. What tremendous life skills to bestow to your child!

Kumon is a system of well researched mathematics and English programmes that consist of unique, structured worksheets created for each child’s “just right level”.

I will use the worksheets to guide your child one step at a time to maximise his or her potential.

I invite you to explore with me the opportunities that are offered by the Kumon way of learning and together we can develop smart learners.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
