About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available
The Makhado Study Centre was taken over by Adila Aboobaker in 2019, and relocated to new premises in Krogh Street.

Conveniently positioned close to schools and easily accessible, the centre is a child friendly place with plenty of safe parking. The centre is ideally located opposite Kofee Pot and close to C Jays salon and many other stores. Parents can easily run errands, or simply take out some time from their busy day to unwind and relax whilst their children complete their session.

All students are welcomed with warm smiles and encouragement from the time that they enter the centre. Our ‘early learner’ section caters for children as young as three years old. Our centre accommodates all types of learners, ranging from top achievers to second language English speakers, to learners who are struggling. Kumon offers an individualised programme for each of these learners and we thrive on the diversity of our group. Students are assigned time slots to ensure efficiency and a conducive learning environment.

In order to improve on the comprehension, reading, pronunciation and expression of both first and second language speakers, a separate reading area is provided. Supplementary activities such as flash cards, reading aloud and listening comprehensions are conducted.

Our aim is to develop self-learners. This is achieved by motivating and encouraging all students to achieve their full potential. We believe in developing their work skills so that we may build their confidence to work on their own, not only in Kumon but in other school subjects as well.

We at the Makhado Study Centre are extremely passionate about books and strive to instil a love for reading in our students. All students have access to our lovely library corner during centre times.

About the Instructor

My name is Adila Aboobaker and I am the Instructor at the Makhado Study Centre. I have been a high school teacher for the past 12 years, and am extremely passionate about children, books and education. I am also a mom to two wonderful boys.

I had always known about the superiority of the Kumon method, but did not fully understand it until I saw the benefits emerge in my own home as my boys were experiencing it. I was truly impressed by the discipline and commitment that it evoked in my own children. That is what further motivated me to pursue the Kumon Instructor role. My main aim is to foster a love for learning, and to create an environment where children thrive, feel comfortable and can be themselves. The most beautiful aspect about the Kumon method is that each student has an individualised program that is suitable at just the right level for them specifically.

As an Instructor I continuously raise the bar for my students so that they can achieve their potential. This is a completely unique method. It builds confidence, nurtures potential and creates independent learners. I take great pleasure in working with children and being a part of their growth. I am extremely passionate about what Kumon is able to achieve and look forward to making a difference in your child’s life.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
