About our centre

At the Modimolle Centre, we offer three Kumon programmes: the Kumon Mathematics Programme, the Kumon English Second Language Programme, and the Kumon English (Native Language) Programme. Each student follows an individualised learning plan designed according to their current ability, allowing them to progress at a pace that suits them.

Our centre provides a safe and supportive environment where children are encouraged to develop focus, independence, and responsibility for their own learning. Through the structured Kumon Method, students strengthen their academic foundations while cultivating valuable life skills such as concentration, perseverance, time management, and self-discipline.

We are committed to unlocking the potential of every child and guiding them towards achieving an international standard for their age. With consistent daily practice and thoughtful guidance, students not only improve academically but also grow into confident, capable learners equipped for future success.

Blanché Smit

About your Instructor

My name is Blanché Smit, and I am the Kumon Instructor at Kumon Modimolle. I hold a TEFL certificate and gained valuable teaching experience in Bangkok, where I discovered my passion for working with children and supporting their academic growth.

My personal motto is, “You are never too old or too young to learn something new.” I truly believe that every child has unlimited potential, and I am committed to guiding students as they grow both academically and personally. Patience, encouragement, and dedication are at the heart of my instruction approach, and I value being part of each child’s educational journey.

Before opening Kumon Modimolle, I worked as an assistant at the Kumon Montana Centre. During that time, I saw firsthand how the Kumon Method strengthens students’ skills in Mathematics and English while also developing confidence, independence, and strong study habits. Watching students progress and gain self-belief inspired me to continue my journey as a Kumon Instructor.

I firmly believe that when children develop confidence in their abilities, they are empowered to achieve the goals they set for themselves. Through consistent practice and structured guidance, my aim is to help every student build a strong foundation for lifelong success.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
