About this centre

Welcome to Kumon Mtubatuba.

Kumon Mtuba opened its doors in 2018 and aims to nurture and support many happy and successful students.

The study centre provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ensuring a conducive environment for maximum ability development.

Ongoing Instructor training occurs to ensure your child is gaining the maximum benefit from the Kumon programmes.

The students range from pre-school to middle school students who either attend schools in town or the surrounding areas.

Kumon Mtuba welcomes students of all ages and all abilities.

There is a dedicated Early Learner’s area that welcomes the younger students. We also have a comfortable reading area with a well-stocked bookshelf. We encourage both our English and Maths programme students to become avid readers.

The centre has a dedicated, warm, friendly assistant who, with the Instructor, aims to nurture each student to develop and realise their full potential.

Kumon Mtubatuba is centrally situated in a quiet residential area. It is near all local shops and banks. There is ample shaded parking, and for the parents who do not want to wait in their vehicles, there is a lovely, tranquil garden veranda that serves as a waiting area.

The Mtuba centre looks forward to welcoming you.
My name is Rienie De Jager; I opened my Kumon study centre in 2018.

After Grade 12, I worked as a teacher’s assistant at a pre-primary school for four years. Thereafter I went on to teach in the foundation phase at a local primary school for a number of years.

I left teaching after getting married and started working for the family business.

Since then, I have worked in the financial sector and home schooled my own son for three years.

I love working with children. They motivate me through their enquiring minds and their constant search for knowledge and new ways to learn.

Recently my “calling” resurfaced and I decided to contribute to society by bringing Kumon back to Mtubatuba.

What I enjoy about the Kumon programme is that I am able to work with each individual student, developing a study programme for each child and keeping them working at their very own “Just-Right” level. Each child, no matter what grade, age or skill level, advances at his or her own pace, succeeding and mastering as he or she advances.

What I love about the Maths programme is the way the child’s skills are built from the basics upwards and ultimately working beyond grade level.

I am passionate about reading, and the Kumon English programme instils a love for reading and books in each and every child while working towards analysing texts and reading critically.

As a person with a passion for education it inspires me to see students achieving their potential and working beyond what is expected of them. It is a privilege being part of that process.

Most Popular Questions

Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
