About this centre

The Northriding Centre was established in 2013. Our aim at the centre is to develop work skills and life skills such as concentration, time management, pencil control, self-confidence, independence and ultimately self-learning skills, in each child.

These skills are vital for any child’s progress and development. And it is by the development of these skills that we nurture each child to work to their full potential and to become well-rounded, confident individuals who can contribute to society.

At the centre we maintain a calm, relaxed and positive environment in which students are able to focus on their work and enjoy their time at the centre. The atmosphere in the Northidring centre is conducive to study.

Every child is an individual and every child’s needs are different.  At Kumon we recognise this and hence we cater for individualised study in which every child works according to their specific need.

Reading is a very important part of our English programme and students are encouraged to be reading at all times. In support of this we have a reading corner at the centre.  We also have an early learners’ section which accommodates students between the ages of four and seven. In addition, we have the independent learners’ area for students who have been nurtured to work independently.

At Kumon we guide each and every child from foundation levels to become independent learners and finally to be able to be analytical thinkers.

Our students vary in age from 4 years old to adults.  Kumon caters for every person who has a need to learn.

At the centre we have assistants who guide and support the students.  This ensures the smooth running of the centre.

We are located at the Northgate shopping centre where there are ample parking facilities for all.

We look forward to making a difference in your child’s life.
I have been a Kumon Instructor since August 2013.

My qualifications are in chemistry and biochemistry, but my passion lies in working with children. Prior to joining Kumon, I was involved in teaching and lecturing over a period of 8 years.

I believe that not everyone is cut out to be an educator and that it is a gift that you either have or you don’t.  And if you have it, it is one of the most rewarding careers that you can experience especially if you are able  to make a child believe in themselves, help them develop  and watch them grow from strength to strength in front of you. This is what I want for each and every child that walks into my centre.

It is a ‘must’ for every child to have a strong educational foundation, and this is what Kumon does. It is only then that they can develop into strong, confident individuals, which is what we want for all our children.

Most Popular Questions

Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
