Pinelands has two Kumon centres: Pinelands North, situated in the grounds of Pinelands North Primary School, and Pinelands Central, situated in close proximity to Pinelands High School, in Stratford Way. Pinelands North Centre, operates on Monday and Thursday afternoons and Pinelands Central, on Tuesdays and Fridays, giving parents the flexibility of a choice of days and venues.

Pinelands North Centre was established over a decade ago. Pinelands Central opened in 2006, due to the interest shown in the Kumon programme and to make Kumon accessible to students on four days of the week.

Information sessions and parent interviews are scheduled for Wednesday afternoons, by appointment.

Both centres have dedicated, warm, long-serving assistants, all of whom are qualified teachers and who believe in journeying alongside each student to nurture them to develop and realise their full potential.

A dedicated Early Learners’ area welcomes the younger students, of whom the youngest is 5. The Pinelands Centres welcome all ages and abilities and have nurtured students between the ages of 4 and 18 years old.

The Pinelands Centres look forward to welcoming you.

About the Instructor

My name is Joan Wright and assisting people to realise their immense potential, is my passion. A qualified teacher with many years’ teaching experience, I was first introduced to the Kumon method, when I became an assistant in the Pinelands North Kumon Centre in 2005. I was impressed by the confidence it instilled in each student and how this new-found confidence gave an ‘I can’ attitude towards study rather than the learning anxiety with which they had initially presented. This is what inspired me to take over the Pinelands North Centre, when the opportunity arose at the beginning of 2006. Journeying alongside each student and watching them blossom into confident, capable young people, with self-belief, has been such a great privilege.

I am always struck by how respectful each student is towards the others in the centre and the wonderful rapport that develops between the students on their respective journeys. The development of determination, perseverance and work ethic (all wonderful life skills) that occurs within Kumon students  is most humbling to witness and I am most privileged to be part of this process.

“Practise makes…..no, not perfect, but.. permanent” -  and I love observing the growth in confidence as this manifests itself! Allowing each student to work at his/her pace to ensure that the basics on which to build future success through self-learning , is an integral part of the Kumon programme and is what we implement in all our centres.

Children are our treasures and being able to work alongside parents and their children and assist them to be the best they can be, is a great privilege and an exceptional journey.

I share a comment from a long-standing parent who has with both daughters enrolled on the programme:
“The ‘Golden Thread’ of the Kumon programme, is the positive attitude and commitment of the learner...complemented by the inspiring, character-building approach of the Instructors at the Pinelands Kumon centres. My girls are consistently attaining excellent results in mathematics!!!”

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
