About this centre

In-centre Classes & Messaging support
The Randpark Ridge Study Centre opened in 2012 and is located at the Ridge Terrace Shopping Centre, between the Randpark Ridge and Weltevreden Park suburbs. There is a large parking area, as well as a variety of shops to browse in while the children are at Kumon. The children may come to the centre at any time throughout the afternoon and the class usually takes about half an hour per subject.

The diverse centre team is equipped to cater for all levels of students, including those with advanced maths skills who wish to give themselves a challenge. The centre offers a safe study environment where students grow and blossom with the help of experienced and hard-working assistants. There is a maximum of five students per staff member at the centres busiest time so that everyone receives the attention and support they need. The centre has number boards, multiplication boards and spelling activities which enhances the students’ daily work, as well as a small library to encourage a love for reading.

Kumon is available to students of all ages and abilities and the current age group at the centre is from pre-school up to high school.

My name is Jessica Selyer and my Kumon journey began in 2015 when I started working at two different Kumon Centres, initially because I enjoyed working with children. However, the longer I was exposed to Kumon, its programme, its ethos, its processes, the more I realised that I had found my life’s passion. This also fuelled my own educational journey to complete my Degree in Marketing Communication so that I could pursue my passion with a strong educational background.

What initially drew me to Kumon was my love of working with children, but what made me stay and even pursue this path further are the possibilities that the programme can provide for any person, regardless of their age or educational level. I have worked through the programme and found that it contributed to my own life skills and success. I continue to encourage anyone, child or adult, to take this journey for their own skills development.

With a powerful passion for the programme and for working with and bettering students, as well as for the Kumon programme itself, I trust that I can be a part of the students’ amazing journey in discovering their potential and helping them along the path of success as they face the wonderful challenges that life has to offer.  I look forward to meeting you and working with you in the future!

Most Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
