About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available
The Centre was originally established in the mid 1990's and has grown to be a Centre where children are given the guidance, opportunities, skills and most importantly the confidence and stimulation, to achieve anything they put their minds to, both academically and in everyday life. At our Centre we inspire children to believe in themselves and to challenge themselves with their daily study of Kumon.

Kumon is a programme for all ages and abilities. At our centre we have children of various ages who study the Kumon programmes. Through the Kumon Method children can work comfortably and confidently with the knowledge and understanding that Kumon equips them with. Goal setting with students and parents is also part of the Kumon Method, and as such students are always aware of what their individual goals are. Reports on these goals and achievements are provided regularly.

We have well-trained assistants who work at the Centre to support the students’ development.

There is adequate parking space for the parents to sit and wait for their children while they are busy completing their tasks inside the Centre. Our property is surrounded by palisade fencing and has a large area for children to wait safely for their parents, should they need to.

About the Instructor

My name is Liz-Mari Jansen van Vuuren and I would like to share my Kumon journey with you thus far.

I am privileged to have been a Kumon assistant since September 2007, which meant that I was part of the Kumon family for nine years before making the decision to become the Instructor of the Rustenburg Central Study Centre early in 2016. I was very excited to embark on this new part of my journey!

I have learned so much about the Kumon programmes, as well as about the abilities of children in the different age groups, from the ages of three years old up to the more developed and mature age of about fifteen years. This makes me feel very confident to be able to say that I believe in Kumon as a study programme, as well as a life skill and confidence development programme. With Kumon there is always something better to achieve.

At our Centre here in Rustenburg we believe in developing the limitless potential of each individual child and to foster sound capable people, which will in turn contribute to a global society.

Please feel free to contact me for any information or to set up an enrolment interview. I am looking forward to meeting you and introducing you and your children to a whole new world of possibilities.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
