The Sandton Centre opened in 1995. My centres welcome students of all ages from 2½ years old to adults.

In my Kumon centres, we use the Kumon programmes to pursue the potential of each of our students by developing their confidence and independence through individualisation and through pursuing advanced study. Overall we strive to provide a friendly, caring and encouraging environment for our students. Students may be learning reading, writing and/or calculation skills for the very first time or developing previously learnt skills. Our instruction is especially tailored to working with younger students who want to learn and develop their full potential. We provide supplementary activities which assist in developing  excellent study habits in early learners and prepare them for independent learning.

All students who achieve Kumon International Standard attend a prestigious annual award ceremony to celebrate their achievements.

My centres consist of separate sections for Early Learners, Maths and English students. We aim at developing a positive attitude towards study in each student on every class day. My fully-trained assistants are there to support every child with their learning. They know the Kumon worksheets well and know what to look for when working with each student.

We care about each and every one of our students, regardless of age or level. We want to pursue the realisation of their maximum potential!

About the Instructor

After I qualified as a teacher in 1995, I joined Kumon Head Office promoting Kumon to the education sector. Six months later, I took over the Glenhazel Centre. Today, I have over 500 students in the Glenhazel and Sandton Centres.

In the past two decades, I have been privileged to have participated in international Kumon conferences in Japan, Brazil, the UK and Australia in order to learn more about best practice. I have also been selected  to be a part of the Elite Gold Club and thereafter the Vision Club for Kumon Europe and Africa.
I attribute my centres' success on focusing on the individual. We pursue individualisation by building up  self-confidence  through self-learning, fluency,  accuracy, repetition and mastery of a concept before moving on to the next concept.

My 23 trained Kumon staff members and I strive to provide a friendly, caring and encouraging environment in which students can best learn.

My centres have had many Kumon Completers which means they have completed either the maths programme or the English programme or both programmes. These students have experienced great success in their school careers. Many of my past students have matriculated with distinction.  Through Kumon these students have learnt the discipline and work ethic that has helped them with all their school work.

Before I enrol a student,  I meet with the student and parents to explain the Kumon Method, to ensure this is what they want and most importantly that they are prepared to commit to Kumon so as to achieve the best results. Kumon is not a substitute for school but a supplementary learning method.
I am passionate about what Kumon is able to achieve and that is what has driven my success over the past 20 years!

My Kumon office is open daily and we look forward to meeting you and explaining how Kumon can make a difference to your child's education as every child is an achiever!

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
