About this centre

At our centre we cater for every child, regardless of ability, age or culture. The youngest student is two years old and most senior student is sixty-six years of age! This Kumon centre has separate study areas with dedicated staff members who specialise in instructing students in each area. Our dedicated staff have been fully trained to instruct students to achieve their own personal best. Some staff members  have been with the centre for more than 10 years! One of the staff members has completed the English programme. Others pursue their own private study towards professional qualifications. Having these high achieving staff members on hand to guide our students is a great source of motivation for them.

The centre vision of goal setting for each child so that they can each achieve their full potential is driven by each of our staff members. We value each and every one of our students and their Kumon achievements. Twice annually we hold a prestigious Honours Roll ceremony to celebrate our many students’ achievements.

We at Kumon South and Randhart Study Centres are a dedicated team and many students and staff members refer to us as their Kumon family!
My Name is Jeanetta Taaljard and I am the Instructor of the Alberton, Randhart and Kumon South Study Centres. My journey with Kumon began in 1995. I had previously taught at high school level but at the time, I was at home with my own children, completing my post graduate studies in remedial and special education. Whilst completing my studies, I was assisting many of the neighbourhood children with their school studies and I found that many of them struggled with Maths and English language. Kumon had extensive and well researched maths and English programmes and a student would want to excel in their Maths and English studies.

What I truly love about the Kumon programmes is that it is a system of worksheets that have been created in a way that they are suited to each child's abilities. Kumon is for every student; from the weakest to the strongest and from the youngest to the oldest – this is what I wanted for my students!

Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
