About the Instructor

My name is Anita Chetty. I am a passionate, experienced and qualified educator, having dedicated over 25 years to teaching and learning. As Head of the department, I had many opportunities as a leader, guide and mentor for developing, motivating and empowering educators and learners; developing individualised learner support plans to measure performance, supervising and monitoring educator programmes and training and classroom practises, and guiding curriculum management. My educational journey has afforded me the opportunity to interact and work with high school, primary school, remedial and special needs learners. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, and a Diploma in Higher Education and completed many certificate courses in Inclusive Education and Special Needs.

I had heard many testimonials from family and friends about how successful the Kumon programme was and how it had benefitted their children. I knew Kumon was the next best fit for me after I learned how well it aligned with my own beliefs and philosophy about developing self–learners and lifelong learning. Thus, I grasped the opportunity to pursue my dream and join the Kumon family when the opportunity presented.

Today as the instructor of Kumon Umhlanga Study Centre which offers English and Maths programmes, I can continue to make a meaningful, positive impact on students’ lives and their learning journey. Our programmes establish strong foundations in Maths and English, enabling students to confidently tackle challenging and new tasks independently as they enjoy learning and thrive academically. Kumon develops invaluable lifelong study habits and skills as students learn lifelong skills like how to set and achieve goals, time management skills and problem-solving skills. I find it extremely rewarding to work with students and witness their successes. I believe that every child can succeed in life with consistent support and encouragement, guidance and mentorship, quality teaching and instruction, and a warm, stimulating, conducive, nurturing environment.

Based on my extensive experience, observations and training in the Education sector, I believe that the Kumon Individualised programme is the best investment a parent can make in their child’s future or the best gift to give to any child. It provides tools to develop potential that is awe-inspiring and, skills and knowledge to make successful life-changing decisions. You can choose either the traditional paper and pencil format or go digital with Kumon Connect on a compatible tablet and stylus. Incorporating technology into the tried and tested programmes enables us to provide even more support to your child. Why wait? Invest now with no regrets.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
