About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available
At the Westville South Centre, our aim is to discover the unique potential of every child by developing a positive, confident, and an independent student through individual assessment and development.
With over 60 years of experience, along with the trusted and continued research behind the Kumon method, we strive to nurture strong academic skills in both Maths and English. This is accomplished through purposeful planning and instruction.
The instructor has had the unique experience of being a Kumon student, together with eight years of experience in the development of students through the Kumon programme. Having such experience to develop students beyond grade level is achievable through building their skills in small, manageable steps. We offer a friendly, positive, and welcoming environment. This leads to the encouragement of students studying at their unique pace that helps them develop their abilities and potential even further. With observation and intentional instruction, the student receives guided assistance weather they are at centre or online and through this process the instructor can find their next skill to develop further. This, together with parent collaboration and communication leads to the progress of Kumon every student.

About the Instructor

My first experience with Kumon was when I was a Kumon student. It definitely made a huge impact on my life. During my academic career of becoming an Educator, I fell deeply in-love with the Kumon method, while working as the head assistance at two centres. During this time, I have seen how the method has developed children to love to learn, become confident, self-sufficient, and life-long learners. They always want to do more! For my passion for children, I saw Kumon values align with mine. Working with children to bring out their own unique potential as well as endless joy and magic moments, for all ages and abilities, became second nature to me. This experience did not only transform my life but has changed the manner in which I carry out tasks with efficiency and discipline. I love that Kumon is more than just an academic programme. I look forward to sharing this unique journey with you. And look forward to welcoming you to Kumon Westville South.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
