About our centre

When learners walk into the Kumon Silver Lakes centre, they are welcomed into a clean, warm, home-like space. The learning area is set up so that learners of different ages and levels can all work comfortably in the same environment, each at their own pace.

The centre is conveniently located on a corner, close to surrounding schools and nearby shopping centres, making it an easy and familiar part of daily routines for families in the area.

My vision for the centre is simple. I want it to be a place where children feel seen, encouraged, and capable. A place where progress matters more than comparison, where effort is noticed, and where each learner is supported in becoming a little more confident every time they leave.

About your Instructor

As a Kumon Instructor, I don’t really see my role as just guiding children through worksheets. I see it as helping them realise what they are capable of, often before they can see it themselves. It’s about creating a space where children feel comfortable enough to try, supported enough to keep going, and encouraged enough to grow at their own pace. For me, it really is a service - being present, consistent, and genuinely invested in each learner’s progress and confidence.

What has stayed with me most from working with children is how quietly they change over time. During my time as a Kumon assistant at another branch for almost a year, I saw learners come in unsure of themselves, and slowly start to shift. Not in big, dramatic moments. Just small things - a bit more focus, a bit more confidence, a bit more belief in themselves. And then suddenly, you realise how far they’ve come.

I really believe children don’t need to be pushed into something they’re not ready for, and they also shouldn’t be limited by where they are right now. Every child learns differently, and every child has something in them that can grow. The Kumon Method supports that by giving learners the chance to build strong foundations in Maths and English through small, steady steps, while also stretching those who are ready to go further. It’s for all learners - whether they need to build confidence, strengthen their skills, or take on more challenge. It helps them grow in independence, focus, and resilience along the way.

This is what continues to shape how I support each learner at the centre.

At the end of the day, I just want them to believe in themselves. And if that happens, then I feel like I’ve done what I’m meant to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
